Sachi Matsunaga is a Professor in the Department of Applied Biological Science at Tokyo University of Science. He is also a Director in the Division of Synthetic Biology at the Research Institute for Science and Technology. He completed his PhD at the University of Tokyo in 1998. After postdoctoral positions at the University of North Carolina and the University of Tokyo, he started to research nuclear architecture and chromatin dynamics at Osaka University and founded his lab at the Tokyo University of Science in 2011. Sachi’s research group moved to the University of Tokyo in 2020 where they focus on epigenetic regulation in plant regeneration and chromatin dynamics in Arabidopsis and a primitive alga Schyzon. Recently, he reported an epigenetic priming mechanism in shoot regeneration. He also enjoys development of imaging techniques including the transparent method for plant organs.
