Professor Niyogi is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, a professor in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at the University of California, Berkeley, and a faculty scientist in the Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received his PhD in biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and after postdoctoral studies at the Carnegie Institution, he joined the faculty at UC-Berkeley in 1997. His lab studies how photosynthesis is regulated and how it might be improved to help meet the world’s needs for food and fuel. He has recently received the Fellow of ASPB Award, and he has been elected as a Fellow of AAAS and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
