Dr Mylne is an Associate Professor in the University of Western Australia’s School of Molecular Sciences where he is also affiliated to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre for Excellence in Plant Energy Biology. By training he is a geneticist and biochemist and received his PhD in plant genetic engineering from the University of Queensland (2002). Thereafter he worked in developmental genetics and epigenetics at the John Innes Centre (2001-2005) and then peptide biochemistry in the IMB, a biomedical institute at the University of Queensland (2006-2012). He has held successive, national ARC QEII and Future Fellowships (2008-2016), was Australia’s 2012 ASPS Goldacre medal winner, a 2014 Feinberg Foundation Visiting Fellow to the Weizmann in Israel and a 2018 Fulbright Professional Scholar to the University of Minnesota. He founded his lab in Perth in 2013 and focusses on studies in protein evolution, peptide biosynthesis and is now developing a new program in herbicide development and target discovery.
