Anne Osbourn is a Professor of biology and director of the Norwich Research Park Industrial Biotechnology Alliance at the John Innes Centre. Anne’s research involves natural product biosynthesis and she has identified that the genes involved with plant product biosynthesis are encoded within clusters in the plant genome. This has opened up new discoveries through genome mining and metabolic engineering. She has also developed a synthetic biology platform based on transient plant expression systems to provide rapid access to previously inaccessible natural products and analogs at a gram scale. She has combined genomics and plant biology to synthesize and access plant natural products for agricultural, industrial and medicinal applications. Anne is also passionate about poetry and science communication. developed the Science, Art and Writing (SAW) Initiative, an educational outreach programme aimed at inspiring scientific curiosity with art and imagery. In 2019 she was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS).
